William Salmon

Der englische empiric doctor William > Salmon (*2.06.1644 - † 1713 London) schrieb viele Texte zur Anatomie und Medizin. Er wurde als King of the Quacks in manchen Gedicht verspottet. Dessen ungeachtet verdiente er als Heilpraktiker und Medizinverkäufer zusätzlich zu den Einnahmen aus den Verkäufen seiner Bücher erhebliche Summen. Mehrfach wechselte er seinen Wohnort innerhalb von London.

Seine Angaben zur proportionalen Darstellung des menschlichen Kopfes sind Kopien nach italienischen Vorlagen ( > Hondius, Goeree, Ciamberlano, Stella, Fialetti). Nur den Kopf bedachte er mit den Angaben zur Unterteilung, weil offenkundig nur das Bildnis ihm als Darstellungsmotiv von Bedeutung erschien.

Nachvollziehbar wird das insofern als er charakterkundliche Aufmerksamkeit pflegte. Davon zeugt die Abbildung mit den Handlinien und den enstprechenden Bezeichnungen der Innenansicht einer Hand.
